gamers

Generically, it refers to anyone who plays games – any kind of games. In modern society, it most usually refers to electronic gaming/computer gaming (or egaming/esports), especially those who play competitively. Gamers are players who play on consoles (w/ controllers/joysticks) – Xbox/PlayStation/Nintendo, or PC (w/ keyboard and mouse). Both console and pc gaming have been around for decades. The birth of console gaming was said to have started around 1940, and PC gaming started around mid-1960s. Popularity of “gaming” grew as technology advanced – better graphics, more precise controls. As “Gaming” expanded, as did the genre of games. It grew from traditional ones like Action, Adventure, Strategy, etc. to some popular ones like FPS (First Person Shooter), RPGs (Role Playing Games), MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena). Competitive gaming or more commonly known as Esports, is a new industry on the horizon. As with traditional sports, teams compete for world championship yearly. Other yearly events for gamers include Gaming Conventions. The biggest, most anticipated, exclusively dedicated to gaming is PAX, hosted by Penny Arcade since 2004. The gaming culture has grown exponentially in recent years. After all, who doesn’t like gaming. Whether casually or competitively, gaming is one of the greatest bonding mechanisms, it helps you understand and challenge yourself through problem solving and understand others or how to work with others through teamwork. At the end of the day, gaming is all about having a good time. So long as you enjoyed the game, made a friend, or simply had a good time, that’s all that matters.
